SayNear – Terms of Use

Effective from: 15 October 2026

The service is provided by Fixarn Ab (Business ID 3162521-4), Ålandsvägen 40, 22100 Mariehamn, Åland, Finland. By using SayNear you accept these terms.

False alarms and misuse

  1. SayNear is for real emergencies. A false alarm sends real people out to help and makes others stop trusting alerts. False alarms are serious.
  2. During the 3-second countdown before the alarm is sent you can cancel without consequences, since nothing has reached others yet. An alarm that has been sent to others and that you then cancel without a real emergency counts as a false alarm and leads to suspension.
  3. People who responded to an alarm may afterwards mark whether it was a real emergency or a false alarm. We assess these reviews together with other information.
  4. Consequences of a confirmed false alarm: - First time: suspension from SayNear for 30 days. - Second time: permanent ban. The ban may be linked to the device and phone number to prevent new accounts.
  5. You can appeal a suspension by contacting support@saynear.com, and we will review the case again.
  6. Liability: Anyone who intentionally or through gross negligence raises false alarms or misuses the service may be liable to compensate actual damages and costs caused to Fixarn Ab or other users, under applicable law.
  7. False calls to the emergency number 112 are a criminal offence. In cases of harassment, threats or putting someone in danger, we may report to the police and disclose data to authorities where the law requires.

PIN code to end an alarm

An alarm is ended with a PIN code that you choose when you start using the app. The code is stored only as a salted hash on your phone. If you enter the wrong code, the phone shows the alarm as ended, but the alarm continues in secret: your position is still shared with bears who answered that they are coming, and they are warned that the alarm was probably stopped under duress. Remember your code – if you mistype it, the alarm keeps running and the bears are warned.

Age

You must be at least 16 to use SayNear. To act as a bear (receive alerts from others and go to the location) you must be at least 18. You must give your correct age. If you give a false age in order to use bear mode, we may suspend you from the service.

Other

SayNear does not replace 112. Always call 112 when life or health is at risk.
